Why I Often Write Stream of Consciousness
Stream of Consciousness style
Writing with no reins is not too different from free falling. The way you push your mind to the edge, and just let go. It will do its own thing.
Similarly, you hope you’ll survive the flight. And still, you know that whatever happens, wherever the end, you’ll have been places you’ve never been before.
I have often heard the advice that to evolve in your writing you must have no shame. Or better, you should display all that you have, the things in your should that are most vulnerable. I have tried that. But don’t know. Mostly, I am starting to think that what we need to put on a display is not necessarily (though it may help) the content of our deepest thoughts, but their form.
Nothing new, though. They call it “writing voice”. And I like to hear my own, what can I say, I am very little modest that way.
Still, reading myself often gives me pain. Because, I am not there yet. There where? Not sure.
Still, I spend a lot of time writing things that need research and paraphrasing, essays, lists, stuff like that. It’s so refreshing to just vomit out what’s in my mind sometimes. Write a bit journal-style, a bit “writing advice”-style. Not that you should take advice from any stranger on the internet. Surely not from me. I am still somewhere near the first plateau of the learning curve when it comes to writing.
But writing from your own mind, free falling, feels good. That I know.
And here endeth the lesson.
