I think Gauguin's behaviour was over the top at the time as well. Thus, while I am often a supporter of separating work from artist, I don't feel like doing it for pedophilia. Sure, true, it did happen at the time of philosophers, etc... and maybe I don't think about it as much because of how long ago it happened. Or, maybe (mind you, I haven't thought about it too much) I separate those philosopher from the work as the work is almost born separate from their life...meaning, it was the basis of much of human thought that evolved to the science and more that we now have. So, it is of epistemological nature almost...Also I have used the word "cancel" because of the known cancel culture, but I did make sure to state that I don't approve to the black and white movement. In the case of Gaugin (as separate form Dali, or any Greek Philosopher) the subject of his work was exactly the people he wronged.
