Beautiful, brilliant article on the evolution of the sublime...For some reason I avoided Kant's interpretations in my story lol But, I see yours as the "present" of the sublime. Super interesting. I wonder though if the "new" interpretation/reproduction of the sublime is (while being connected to it) capable of evoking fear and terror. Surely, as you know it's the case with Rothko for me, abstract expressionism can invoke a looot of emotions...it can go where words fail. But, is it often the size of such paintings (By Rothko and Newman for example) that are a more direct incitement of the sublime? In the traditional sense, of course.
